GUIDED READING
Scaffolding students to independent, fluent reading
Guided reading is a strategy used throughout the world to ensure the teaching of reading leads to fluent reading for all students. Guided reading is where the teacher takes a small group of students with similar needs to explicitly teach reading strategies.
Teachers learn how to group students and guide students through a text to ensure high levels of comprehension. A variety of reading strategies are explicitly taught ensuring students have a choice of strategies for attacking unknown words. In this workshop teachers also learn a variety of reading activities that support students in independent group work to enable the teacher to work with a small group in guided reading. Teachers will learn how to assess students' reading and match them to suitable text to ensure incredible gains in reading outcomes.
Students love guided reading and achieve greater outcomes in reading as a result of guided reading.
