Book 1- Learning Centres to Support Guided Reading

 Not sure what to do with the rest of the class during guided reading? This book is jam packed with photo-copiable stencils and ideas for developing learning centres suitable for students from the beginning of schooling through to Year 7. The first two chapters are dedicated to ideas for developing reading comprehension. These activities are fun and motivating while based on strategies to develop comprehension such as summarising, questioning and making connections. Two chapters focus on developing sound, letter and word knowledge including activities for homophones, contractions and initial and final sounds. The book also has a chapter on developing oral language skills with activities for readers theatre and barrier games.

Book 2 More Learning Centres to Support Guided Reading
Written by: Margaret Menner and Roy Menner
 This book is also chock-full of ideas for small group reading activities for students from the beginning grades through to Year 7.
The activities can be combined with those in Book 1 or can be used in isolation. There are more great reading comprehension activities including visualizing, activating prior knowledge and fluency games. There are some excellent comprehension games for sequencing nursery rhymes and some fun inference board games. Again, there is a focus on word, letter and sound knowledge with particular emphasis on phonological awareness. There are games for compound words, onset and rime and rhyming words.
Both Book 1 and Book 2 have a range of alphabet learning centres.

Book 3 - Activities To Motivate Your Students To Write

 Do you need exciting writing ideas you can photocopy and make into task cards? These activities are designed to motivate students to write and can be made into learning centres or just used as ideas for children who are not sure what to write.
Move away from boring genre writing and get your students excited about text types as they design theme park brochures and argue for messy rooms. For those students daunted by writing long pieces of text have them try writing a list of "7 reasons for pockets" or "7 reasons for toilets". For those students who don’t know what to write about get them thinking about why we have ‘belly button fluff’ or why some people have hair growing in their ears.
Beginning writers will love the ‘lucky dip’ writing or ‘headband’ writing and the writing prompts will ‘jump start’ students who need extra support. The “Mixed Bag’ chapter will excite even the most jaded writer. This book is designed for P-7 students and is directed at students who are not sure what to write.
